The glorious West

Heading west into the Balagne region, the vista opens out to sweeping beaches, bright blue skies, turquoise seas, and the impressive mountains behind.  In-land, the Balagne is an agricultural landscape made up of oranges, lemons, olives, honey and other farm produce.  The inland villages are quietly renowned for artisan products, excellent restaurants (when you’re in the know) and bakeries.  Down on the coast, Calvi offers riviera-style bars and cafes along the port and under the shade of the looming citadel.  The magnificent coastline plays host to walkers, cyclers and lovers of all water sports.

Further south, the terrain becomes wild and rugged and magnificent.  At the little port town of Porto, huge red cliffs plunge dramatically into the sea.  Visit the Scandola nature reserve by boat to see one of the wildest, most treasured areas of European coastline.
